Put on a Happy Face

I can’t even begin to tell you how many articles are out there about how bad the legal job market is right now. I get it, the market isn’t what it used to be. Career services has told me this, the Wall Street Journal has told me and Above the Law keeps me going with weekly updates on the job market. I have to admit that these updates get pretty depressing after a little while and really gets me down.

Lately, I’ve decided to just ignore the bad news and keep going. Right now during BarBri, obsessing about the state of the job market will do nothing but harm. Therefore, I’m going to be foolishly quixotic and forge ahead thinking that I’ll find my dream job soon after the bar. Thankfully my ideal job involves helping others, a pretty meager salary and lots of hard work so I’m hoping that someone needs me under those terms.

I’m going to take a cue from Bye, Bye Birdie and, “Wipe off that “full of doubt” look, Slap on a happy grin! And spread sunshine all over the place, Just put on a happy face!”

There’s a lot to be said for reckless optimism. Heck, it worked just fine for me!

    I’m sure you’ll be fine. :-)

Glad to know another soon-to-be-lawyer is over the “failing job market” hype; I almost stopped my subscription to Above The Law because of all the lower-tier-trash talk. Have fun w/ BarBri, good luck on the bar exam.
